Volvo India is gearing up for a couple of launches for the Indian luxury car market, beginning with the much-awaited XC90 and a new-entry-level hatchback, the V40. The new-generation XC90 is now available in Europe and North America and the Swedish automaker will launch its flagship SUV in India by this September.
The XC90 that will come to India with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce about 225bhp of power and come mated to all the four-wheels through an eight-speed self-shifting transmission. The XC90 will be made available in two variants, Inscription and Momentum. The top-of-the-line trim will be Inscription and it shall come loaded with all the goodies heads-up display, 12.3-inch screen, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, air suspension, Nappa leather seats and Bowers and Wilkins audio system. The hybrid version of the XC90 will also be coming to India, which will be the T8 variant. This is due to be launched in India by early 2016. This will come with a petrol engine and electric motor. This will be Volvo's first hybrid model for the Indian car market. The Volvo XC90 will compete with the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The new-generation XC90 has set a new benchmark with luxury and safety features and it now has an advantage over the competition. As always, Volvo will competitively price the XC90.
The V40 Cross Country is available in India, however the V40 hatchback isn't. So, expect the V40 hatchback to be launched this year. The V40 hatchback is also powered by the D3 engine and will boast similar 150bhp power like the Cross Country. The V40's on-road pricing will be about Rs 27.5 lakhs and this will make it highly competitive in its segment. Volvo is also expanding its dealership network in India. Recently, the company inaugurated a new dealership in Andheri (West), Mumbai and now the Swedish automaker will soon add on multiple more dealerships across the country.
