Volkswagen have just announced the prices for its Vento sedan in New Delhi today, and the news seems to be good for those who have been waiting for the car.
Volkswagen India have priced the car very competitively, starting at Rs 6.99 lakh for the 1.6-litre petrol Trendline manual version, ex-showroom Delhi. This not only undercuts the Honda City by a fair margin, it also puts the Maruti Suzuki SX4 and the Hyundai Verna firmly in its crosshairs (see prices for all variants at the end of this story)
The company has said that bookings for its seventh offering in India (after the Passat, Jetta, Touareg, Beetle, Phaeton and Polo) have opened and that the first cars will be delivered beginning September 6, 2010.
Previewed with much fanfare on July 6 in New Delhi, the Vento is powered by two engine options: a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 bhp@5250 rpm and 15.5 kgm@3800 rpm of torque; while the second is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that produces 104 bhp@4400 rpm and 25.4 kgm@1500-2500 of torque. The petrol engine will be offered with both a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG automatic while the diesel will be offered in only the 5-speed manual for the moment.
Unlike the Polo that is available in three trims; Comfortline, Trendline and Highline, the Vento will be offered in only the Trendline and Highline variants. The Trendline will feature 175/70 R14 tyres while the Highline will feature 185/60 R15 tyres.
