Suzuki eyes 10% share in 125cc bike segment

Japanese two-wheeler major Suzuki is eyeing 10 per cent market share in the 125 cc motorcycle segment by the end of this financial year.

“While, the two-wheeler segment is growing by 30 per cent in India, the maximum growth is coming from the 125 cc segment, which we will aggressively target,” Suzuki Motorcycle India national head (sales) Rakesh Kumar said at a conference call.

Pressed between the 100 cc and 150 cc segments, 125 cc is the primarily an urban customer segment, which combines both biking power and fuel efficiency.

“Last year, we had sold 180,000 two-wheeler units, we are targeting to sell 2,50,000 units this year,” he said. Kumar was in town to launch Suzuki SlingShot, a 125 cc bike with alloy wheels and five gears.
