SCOOP! Audi A7 caught testing

Our intrepid reporters at BS MOTORING have caught the Audi A7 testing here in Mumbai. The car, possibly a 3.0 TFSI being validated for Indian driving and road conditions is part of Audi's policy of ensuring its cars not only conform to the requirements for homologation but also suit our local conditions. These photographs prove that Audi will be bringing in its four-door coupe in the next three to six months in India.

Audi India plans to bring in the car after the launch of its flagship new A8 sedan sometime next month. The car is expected to be powered by a pair of engine options - the 3.0 TFSI and 3.0 TDI for India. The supercharged petrol TFSI engine produces 300 bhp from its 3.0-litre V6 and an equally impressive 44.5 kgm of peak torque. The 3.0-litre diesel produces about 245 bhp and over 50 kgm of peak torque. Both cars can accelerate from 0-100 kph in under 8 seconds and go on to a top whack of 240 kph plus. Both these engines will be mated to Audi's new dual-clutch, S-Tronic seven speed gearbox

On the inside the seating is strictly for four, what with its curving roof. Yet, Audi have ensured that unlike the A5 four-door, this one is comfortable in terms of legroom, shoulder room and head room for all its occupants. The familiar Audi dashboard layout apart, expect a whole host of exciting standard and optional features to be made available on the A7 in India. Start-Stop will be standard on all cars while other options such as paraller park assist, all-LED headlights, heads-up display and air suspension may be offered in the Indian car.

The A7 utilises Audi's 40:60 Quattro torque split while Audi Drive Select will also be offered as standard which will enable the driver to fine tune steering weighting, throttle response and transmission shift points at the touch of a button.

In terms of size the new A7 Sportback stands almost toe to toe with the current A6 Saloon with a length of 4.97m and width of 1,91m, with a boot that is expandable to nearly 1400 litres.

Audi is expected to position the car between the A6 and A8, and will be priced around Rs 55-65 lakh, ex-showroom. Watch this space for more updates.
