The 2012 Pebble Beach Concours de Elegance saw entrants from across 15 countries. Yes, owners of beauiful classic and vintage machines had they cars carefully packed and shipped from all across the world to Monterey Bay where they would vy for the top honour - the coveted Best of Show trophy. Winning the trophy this year was the beautiful 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo owned by Paul and Judy Andews of Texas and furbished by the legendary coach builder Jacques Saoutchik. It was the seventh time Mercedes-Benz has won the trophy, the last time being in 2001.
Incidentally, this year also featured a special category dedicated to vehicles that were furbished by Saoutchik himself, the trophy for which also went to the same M-B 680S. The Concours also, for the first time, featured a special category called the Cars of the Maharajas Class that featured cars owned at some point by Indian royalty. The 1935 Duesenberg J Gurney-Nutting Speedster owned by the William Lyon Family, Newport Beach, California took home the prize in the E-1 Maharaja class. The E-2 Maharaja class trophy went to the 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Barker Sports Torpedo Tourer owned by the Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie, Hong Kong.
The U American Sports Custom class was won by the very fluid 1948 Norman Timbs Emil Diedt Roadster owned by Gary and Diane Cerveny, Malibu, California. While the Duesenberg trophy went to the 1931 Duesenberg J Derham Tourster owned by Joseph & Margie Cassini III of West Orange, New Jersey.
