In what is the first compact sedan since the launch of the Tata Indigo CS back in 2008, Maruti Suzuki have launched their version of the Dzire at a lip-smacking Rs 4.79 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi for the LXi version. It comes in a total of seven variants (four petrol and three diesel). The diesel variant (LDi) starts at Rs 5.8 lakh while a new petrol automatic variant (VXi) is priced at Rs 6.54 lakh.

Prices of the 2012 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire
The Dzire which was originally launched in 2008 will co-exist with the 2012 Dzire (compact) as Maruti ensures a complete onslaught of the C-segment with three very different offerings. The 2012 Dzire is 3.99 metres long and has a turning radius of 4.8 metres. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, K-Series petrol motor, producing 85.8 bhp@6000 rpm and a 1.25-litre DDiS diesel motor producing 73.9 bhp@4000 rpm. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission on both variants while a segment-first 4-speed automatic option is offered on the petrol variant.

NEW! Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire review!
The 2012 Dzire is based on the new Swift that was launched in August last year and has met with tremendous success ever since, averaging monthly sales of 15,000-16,000 units. Both the cars are identical in terms of wheelbase, though to differentiate things, the company have tweaked the front grille and bumper, offered new design wheelcaps and of course given it a boot. The new, stubbier boot is less bulbous than the last car and Maruti Suzuki's designers have made some effort to give the overall design some balance.

On the inside, the new Dzire comes with a dashboard borrowed from the current Swift while differentiation has been made by giving it a beige treatment to the lower half. Unlike the silver accents on the dash on the Swift, this one comes with wood inserts and green tinted glass at the rear. The boot is a useful 316 litres, though is less than the regular Dzire which stands at 464 litres. Maruti's engineers have also made changes to the rear seat by giving it more rake and made scoops in the front seat to liberate 20 mm more legroom. The rear door is slightly larger too.

While mechanically the cars stay identical, Maruti Suzuki's engineers have tweaked the suspension to make the ride slightly softer. The car's kerb weight is identical to the Swift, ranging from 960 kg to 1080 kg.
