Maruti likely to advance launch of new generation Swift Dzire by a year

December 28, 2015: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is planning to launch its new generation Swift Dzire sedan in financial year 2017-18, a year ahead of its earlier planned launch, according to media reports and sources.

The Maruti Swift Dzire has been one of the best-selling models from the Maruti stable. Launched in 2010, the popular model has been facing a lot of competition especially from Tata Motors (Zica hatchback and Sway sedan), Mahindra & Mahindra’s compact KUV 100 (which will come in both the diesel and petrol versions) and Volkswagen’s Polo.

Maruti is likely to come out with a Dzire Tour model, with a petrol engine, targeting taxi operators. The Swift Dzire is popular among tour operators, but with the Supreme Court crackdown on diesel vehicles, especially in the National Capital Region, Maruti is looking at offering petrol versions.

Interestingly, the new version can also be retrofitted with a CNG kit to meet the stringent norms in Delhi.

The leading automaker also plans to incorporate its popular auto shift gear (ASG) technology, a diesel version of the automated manual transmission (AMT), in the Swift Dzire. According to sources in the trade, the AMT diesel version will be launched in 2016.

The new generation Swift Dzire will be manufactured at its Gujarat facility, which will become operational in 2016-17.
