Nissan Sunny review - Fun in the Sun

The Sunny is powered by a 1.5-litre DOHC petrol motor that produces 98 bhp@6000 rpm and 13.6 kgm@4000 rpm. Mated to a 5-speed manual, the Sunny is designed to be a comfortable and efficient vehicle that delivers an ARAI certified 16.95 kpl.

The Sunny is based on the V-platform that also underpins the Micra and the upcoming B58 hatch from Renault. Available in six colours, the Sunny, like the Micra comes with features like Keyless entry, Start-Stop button, automatic climate control among others. The key highlight of the car is its space and comfort. It has a boot volume of 490 litres.

Weighing in at 998 kg for the XE, 1022 kg for the XL and XV at 1027 kg, the Sunny's lightweight construction enables it to be efficient, while blessing it with a pretty decent power-to-weight ratio.

The Nissan Sunny will compete with the likes of the Toyota Etios, Hyundai Verna 1.4, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and base versions of the SX4. The new Sunny is in its 10th generation, having sold in several countries over the last 40 plus years.

The Sunny has been on sale for 45 years and has sold over 16 million units to date. The 10th gen Sunny was first sold in China in December 2010 and has already become the market leader in its segment. It will eventually be sold in 170 countries, globally.

The car is sold in India with both 14-inch steel wheels and 15-inch alloy wheels. At 4.4 metres long, the Sunny is longer than some of its competition. It comes with ABS with EBD and driver airbag as standard on the XE and in addition with a passenger airbag on the XL and XV.
