Now that a Ducati store has already opened in Mumbai, we can't help but salivate at the prospect of the motoring mayhem that will soon ride into the country. Let's take the Hypermotard 796, for example.
The 796 takes Ducati's trademark twin-cylinder power, albeit with a more manageable displacement and power output, and combines it with the now-famous minimalist supermotard styling that the Hyper sports. The 796 is powered by an 81 bhp engine that puts out 7.8 kgm of torque at 6,250 rpm. Just right for India? You bet! Let's put it this way - the Hyper 1100 will be the dominant part of the rider/bike equation, while with the 796, it'll be the other way around! Shenanigans of all sorts will be more controllable, thanks to the trick cycle parts that are part of the Hypermotard package. Add to that the fact Ducati's V-twins have sweet power delivery and you can imagine approximately how much fun the 796 can be.
The 796 also comes with a 2-1-1 catalytic system, which is compact and lightweight and terminates in characteristic Ducati twin under-seat, black exhaust mufflers, stylishly contrasted with great looking aluminium end caps. In order to maintain a clean, racing look, the bike has been fitted with innovative folding mirrors. The slim-line switch bodies house easy-to-use switches and buttons and feature a unique weapons-like 'trigger catch' that slides down to cover the starter button when the kill-switch is activated.
But we're just lusting after this, really. Ducati doesn't offer the 796 in India!
