Close on the heels of the launch of the Honda Jazz, comes the Fiat Grande Punto. Fiat's second hatchback in the country, the Grande Punto has been competitively priced, with the basic 1.2 Grande Punto Active petrol variant ringing in at Rs 3.99 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi.
Based on the same platform as the Linea, the Grande Punto will be available with three engines - a 1.2-litre FIRE petrol engine with 67 bhp of peak power (which it also shares with the Tata Indica Vista), a 1.4-litre FIRE engine (based on the 1.4 Linea) with 88.5 bhp of peak power and the renowned 1.3 Multijet fixed geometry turbo common rail diesel with 74.5 bhp of peak power. The 1.2 is available in a single trim - Active with the 1.4 available in Dynamic, Emotion and Emotion Pack trims. The prices of the 1.4 vary from Rs 4.66 to 5.61 lakh and the same four trims available in the diesel start from Rs 4.85 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 6.11 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi). It will be available in six colours with safety equipment such as driver and passenger airbags and ABS equipped brakes as standard on the higher models, while the car is Euro NCAP 5 star rated for a fully loaded model.
Other unique features include Fiat's Blue & Me system as seen on the Linea, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, remote key and 15" wheels on the top-of-the-line 1.4 Emotion Pack.
The Grande Punto will be produced at Fiat's facility at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra that currently also turns out the Linea, the Palio and select models from the Tata stable.
