Delhi high court refuses to stay odd-even car formula

The Delhi high court on Wednesday refused to give an interim stay to the state government’s restrictions of movement of cars by imposing an odd-even number registration formula beginning January 1.

“The Delhi government has not yet come out with any scheme on this issue,” the bench noted, while fixing the next date of hearing on the public interest litigation to January 6. “As of today we cannot grant such relief.”

The court also noted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi had sought representation from various stakeholders before finalising the scheme. It also asked the government to consider the representation of a physically challenged person, who is also one of the petitioners, seeking exemption for the physically handicapped.
