Audi launches S4 saloon

Audi India has signed off and put its S4 on sale, making it the fourth variant of the A4 range to be available since its facelift launch just weeks ago.

The S4 is the most powerful version of the A4 saloon, the mighty RS4 available only as an estate, packing in 450 bhp of course. The 333 bhp S4 is visually different from its A4 sibling as it sports platinum grey inserts for the front grille, alumnium-finish wing mirrors, signature 18-inch alloy wheels, S4 badging all around and V6 T badging.

The 3.0-litre V6 TFSI motor that powers the S4 is good for nearly 45 kgm of twist and is mated to Audi's seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox and the famed quatto all-wheel drive system. It has a 0-100 kph time of just 5 seconds and can go on to hit an electronically limited 250 kph. With an ARAI certified fuel economy figure of 10.4 kpl, it's not too bad at the pumps either. Stiffer suspension and slightly different steering ratios should make the car quite some joy to drive as well.

On the inside you get a multi-function, flat bottomed steering wheel as an option, driver information system and brushed aluminium trim on the dash. It also comes with an optional lighting package that features xenon headlamps and LED tail lamps.

The S4, a go-between the regular A4s and the likes of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has no rivals as such.
