The fourth-generation Range Rover has made its Indian debut just weeks after its European launch and a week after its Chinese one.
Re-engineered and re-developed to become lighter and stiffer, with better performance on hand and good fuel economy numbers. Weighing at least 400 kg less than its predecessor, the new Range Rover is the first all aluminium production SUV in the world and boasts of a whole bunch of firsts not just in the SUV space, but even for a Land Rover product.
Using 270 aluminium pressings, 14 castings, nine extrusions, 10 steel pressings and magnesium castings, the whole structure is assembled by using rivets and bonds. In fact over 3,700 rivets are used as well as 160 m of adhesive to put a Range Rover together.
Measuring 4999mm long, the new Range Rover has good cabin space on the inside. Land Rover have in fact benchmarked the car against Rolls-Royce and Bentley for cabin space as well as NVH. With a wading depth of 900mm and a ground clearance of 290 mm up front and 310 mm at the rear, the Range Rover continues to be an off-road champion. It also gets a second generation terrain response system that boasts of real-time terrain detection.
A new eight-speed ZF box works in conjunction with the all-wheel drive system while disc brakes all around bring the Range Rover to a stop on a dime.
Prices though are more than a dime. The range is as below, and as you will notice, this is now firmly in super-luxury car territory.
