Riding too fast two strokers from back in the day

Remember Kelly McGillis from Top Gun? Well, she hardly looks like that shrewd, oh-so-delectable number now, but back in the day, she could do unmentionable things to your anatomy. That, of course, is only if you are not one to gather a huddle and whisper excitedly about the 'mind-blowing' and 'awesome' 3D visuals of Avatar or the Transformers.

There was a fair bit going on in Top Gun, without any trying-too-hard sequences. Cruise rode a fast motorcycle (Quiz: Name the bike he rode in the movie. Entries with the correct answers will get free access to Aneesh's expensive headphones. Heh), flew fighter jets like a daredevil, wore Ray-Ban Aviators and got his flight instructor hooked on to him in no time. What a man!

Those who've missed out on the charms of TG, however, have missed the plane, pun sincerely intended. TG was clean, direct, youthful and each of the characters had some sort of an aspirational undertone to them. Oh, and you don't meet people called Maverick and Ice Man everyday, do you?

[continued] ..acceleration. But i remember loving the satisfying grunt the engine produced. (and the unparalleled joy every kid felt when he first discovered the art of taming and commanding a bike around with his bare hands) But then my brother got busy with his work and also his riding habits had taken its toll on the shogun's engine. When he finally sold it, i came to know about it months later. I didnt feel anything at that time, but years later when i was ready for my first bike, i felt it. The country was being overrun with wimpy putter putters. There wasnt a single good enthusiast's bike worth the price tag.I went with the cbz. Still got it. But the craving for a shogun still remains like an obsession. If i could just go back in time, all grown up. And take THE BOSS out for a spin.

Articles about shogun always make me depressed. My brother, an inveterate speed addict, had a shogun back in the 93-94s. i was 10 years old. I remember him going to buy a yamaha rx100 having got the money from dad. He came home with this baby. Dad wasnt pleased because yamaha was a tried and tested vehicle and shogun was a newcomer.Brother never explained what made him change his mind.(I know now.) It was the hottest bike in the country at that time. And the fairing that looks so tacky now was pretty sleek and stylish then(reminded me of street hawk). Looking at the 'high sprint gear' sticker used to give me goosebumps. And i have spent a lot of time sitting next to it and admiring the black beauty. When we went out, i would be riding the kiddie pillion..(aka between the petrol tank and his crotch) And on empty roads, he used to hand over the handlebar to me. Now i would love to write about nirvana and revelations, but I dont remember wringing it or feeling any warp speed accelera

WOW, those were the days when we keep on looking at the bad boys and admiring their Shogun/RXZ. We are missing a lot of these lovely machines. I am sure, these bike are sure to find a place in bike lovers dream garage.

Good article here..I was slightly disappointed when I got the 2011 Summer of Speed issue and there was very little written about the bikes. Also can you please update this with a bit more specs and some 0-60 times and a head-on against each other in some track ..that would be so awesome and would make justice for these two bikes... My choice is:Shogun- "THE BOSS"

maybe a comparison between the rxz 4 gear and shogun would be better.. and the shaolin with its 5 speed gears vs the rxz 5 speed. have rode an rxz 5g back in its day and the bike was blindingly fast! you wouldn't dare open the throttle in the city.

Great comparison. Would love to one them. these 2 strokers were simply awesome!!!!

Give me that Shogun anyday. The RXZ is naish, but the Shogun it is when you need a can of whoopass to be opened. Quality of materials on the Zuki are atrocious, though. Which is why the Z would make more sense in the long term. Evo
