Ford Figo

No one would have thought the Figo would become such a success story. But it has, and that is despite being based on the last-gen Fiesta platform. It doesn't look exciting on the outside and can't really hide its ageing lines. That though is what the market isn't concerned about, and Ford is managing to push out over 7000 units a month. You are probably wondering how, so here goes. Its starting price for the base version is just under Rs 4 lakh, on-road Delhi and for that you get a 1.2-litre petrol engine that is refined and fairly efficient if slightly gutless. The gearbox is wonderful, body control is excellent and the steering is quite responsive too - in a very typical Ford manner. The 1.4 TDCI diesel with its 68 bhp gives it good bottom-end grunt and decent top whack too. The interiors are pretty spacious and decently loaded, although the seats could have been more supportive. The boot is large and deep enough and that makes the odd out-of-town journey over the weekend comfortable for a family of four. Ford has improved its after-sales service and cost of spares and all of it is helping the blue oval gain credence in the Indian market.

I agree . The Swift is the segment leader and no matter how one consoles the heart or mind , the Swift with the new k-series engine does everything exceedingly well : drive quality , gearshift and engine , looks and sporty design , interior quality and overall dimensions . Its a little expensive , but then its money well spent or rather invested . Every other hatch would like to be a Swift one day , unfortunately they will never achieve that success.

all these cars, a bit like in uk are basically the same thing, i guess people would just go and buy based on their brand preference...which would be fine cause all of them are good buys, nothing too good, nothing too bad...i just wish that these guys could atleast have the option of a more pwrfl engine, as one doesnt really need a bigger/fancier car than these...but one can never have too much power...so bring on those 100bhp polos & puntos...and the swift with the sx4 engine pls... oh and yeah...why is vista missing...oh & how has suzuki managed more pwr AND efficiency...why bigger (better?) companies like VW are bringing in 3-pot (semi-baked?) engines...

for once im glad that you guys are mentioning the 'need' for speed ie. for better engines in your reviews. pls just dont stop revvin home that very point in every small car review..as something not just BSM guys would like to test but indian ppl in general to buy and drive. every small car at present seems only to fall in the 'perfect gift for "parents"' category but a 'lame one for oneself'. god we have the kind of sluggish engines even women drivers in europe wouldnt buy.

Why has the Vista been kept out of this comparison ? Not fair on your part guys..It does sell quite a few numbers and is definitely a very capable car..

well for me the SWIFT is still the choice with its fab engine ... being one of the best in 1.2 range of engines from other manufacturers..the only other 1.2 which is worth considering is the jazz i-vtec..coupled with the swifts handling makes for a super cool fun to drive hatch ... which others just don seem to match .. yes the polo seems to be the new swift but again let down by an un refined petrol and a not so scorching diesel ... so overall the swift still rules .. with the new swift comeing next year there s no looking back it will anyways rule the B segment for years to come
