One look at the S60 and you're sure that this isn't a Volvo you'd have ever thought possible. The car boasts a chunky waist line, large headlamps, swell grill and wheels and a coupe-like roofline. Peek inside, and it's got a well-laid out dashboard, a floating central console, and despite the fact that the interiors are typically Volvo, it also manages to look sporty and youthfl.
Power comes via a whole host of engines. So you have the four-pot 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol with 200 bhp and a six-cylinder 3.0-litre petrol with a staggering 304 bhp. All we can say is, BMW 335i beware! There are more sane engines on offer too - the twin turbo diesel 2.4-litre D5 with 204 bhp and the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel with 163 bhp.
Four more engines will be added later in the year with two 1.6-litre petrols, a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre petrol and an eco-friendly 1.6-litre diesel to keep the men at Brussels happy. A pedestrian detection system that engages the brakes to bring the car to a complete halt from speeds up to 35 kph, while reducing speed drastically to prevent major injuries at slightly higher speeds. Volvo also says that the car is more driver focussed with a taut chassis and an advanced four-wheel drive system.
All of this, and it's here soon. Come January 2011, and the Volvo S60 will be on Indian roads, say company insiders. Wait for it!
