Today Volkswagen released the first sketch of its new sedan that is slated to hit the Indian roads later this year. Based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Polo, the Vento will have a longer wheelbase, by about 50mm, in order to increase rear legroom. Headroom has also been increased to make the car more comfortable, and the roof no longer tapers as sharply as in the hatch.

The Vento has been specifically designed for India and will be manufactured in Volkswagen’s plant at Chakan, Pune.

It will no doubt carry the Volkswagen DNA of German Engineering which is innovative technology, safety, stability sturdiness and tailored to the requirements of the Indian consumer.

Its authentic and elegant design coupled with its innovative features and driving dynamics will set benchmarks in its class and will act as a key brand pillar for Volkswagen to stimulate its growth in the country.

The VW Vento will be in addition to Volkswagen’s already existing product line which includes the Passat, Jetta, Touareg, New Beetle, Phaeton and the very recently and successfully launched New Polo.

@Manoj- Though the brand name make lot of noice in the market, i bet it cannot compete with City style and comfort, check out the outer style of Vento, it is not that elegant while have a look at the City, it has got the rich look and elegant style, sedan is basically for lower height versions that when it looks good, having more head room will give you a truck feel when you drove on it...in my point of view I would rate 5 for 10

I am very eager to know about the car specifications especially the engine/power/safety. Further want to know whether Vento will be available in Diesel varriant also. I am very much interested in buying vento provided it is diesel and the car is with a powerful power train, more than 1400cc. In my view, vento with 1.6Ltr. with good ground clearance and specious head room will make Volkeswagen's entry a real win over existing & well accepted models, like SX4, city. Definitely vento has to be priced very competatively.

Doc, The images is AutocarIndia are computer generated based on the Polo. But,yeah pretty dissapointing from VW.They should've released full pictures of the car's interiors and exteriors if they wanted to and not this

I would be more interested if they released sketches of bigger-than-before engines, instead taking us to be fools and plonking same low powered engines in newer costumes.. I think Indian people should stop getting excited about new old relaunches.

Hey what's this? The Autocar India website has photographs of the Vento since April 23, 2010. And then again,if this is a teaser campaign from VW,it is pretty unimpressive. A lot of gas if you ask me! Doc

Good to see car majors like VW concentrating in India. We've come a long way indeed.
