Volkswagen Beetle India launch

Lovely little thing isn’t it? Fondly called the Bug, the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most iconic car brands, has been launched in India. The original Bug was the first people’s car and over the years, its popularity has grown ten folds. The new iteration of the Beetle was launched in 1998, drawing inspiration from the original Beetle. Unlike the rear-engined original Beetle, the new Beetle is a front-engined, front wheel drive car.

On the design front, it’s a heck of a good looking car. Cute and stylish, it turns heads on the street like few others can. It is powered by a 2000 cc 4-cylinder petrol which develops 115 hp working in conjunction with a 6-speed auto box. Four airbags, ABS, electronic stability programme are all part of the package.

It will be on sale immediately, priced at Rs. 20.45 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Though that might sound a tad expensive, it’s a temptation that sure is going to bug you no end.

Along with the Beetle, Volkswagen India introduced their updated flagship SUV, the Touareg. A 3000 cc V6 TDI diesel engine churning out 240 hp propels this 4x4 from 0-100 kph in 7.8 seconds. Yours for Rs. 51.85 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Beetle has a special place here at BSM. Do go through the related stories featuring the original Beetle.

The car looks sexy But for the prise. VW should bring down the prise to manageable 4.5 to 6 lacs. May be with a scale down engine.

r u sure abt the price??? this seems absolutely out of this planet! who is going to buy such small car at 20L??? i don't think VW nor any other auto company in India should have guts to demand this kind of brnad premium.......May be this car is only meant for who's who of the country OR ofcourse our politicians!!!

GUYS, THIS MODEL WAS FIRST LAUNCHED IN NORTH AMERICA IN 1998. MOST OF THE CARS CAME OUT FROM THE PLANT WERE DEFECTIVE IN THE ELECTRIC IGNITION / BATTERY SYSTEM. THE COMPANY HAD TO TAKE BACK ALL THE SOLD CARS AND RECTIFY THE FAULT. BESIDES THE MODEL BEING OVER 11 YEARS OLD NOTHING THERE TO BE SURPRISE CUSTOMERS IN INDIA. THE VW SUD THINK OF THE PRICE OFFERED WHICH IS WAY HIGH AND INDIAN FELLOW BUYERS ARE NOT FOOL TO FALL INTO THE TRAP OF VW FOR THE 11 YEARS OLD MODEL CAR AT A HEFTY PRICE OF ALMOST Rs.21.00 Lacs. BETTER WATCH OUT

Well even if this goes as "the car Not for masses, but only for classes", the price volksy has decided for this model is same on the lines of Baleno it came, touched, got appreciation, but no actual buyers as the result had to go from the indian markets!!! i suggest this should not be the case with Lovely, Darling Beetle.

Are You KIddin Me !! Volkswagen is certainly callin trouble for itself with such extortionate price for its small car. m sorry but the car's personality sucks ball. i'd prefer fabia even if beetle is avilable for Rs 6 lkhs.

Why dont VW understand that this is not a europian market. Such cars with so high price are not at all affordable to people in india. and even affordable why one should pay 25lacs for such a small car when u can get 2 Sedan cars with almost all features & quality.

The car has potential.. just that its out of reach for the middle/ upper class Indian.. so it would end up with a passionate few... what a pity!

Thats a beautiful car! But with 100% customs its price is way beyond reach! Its high time that protection given to Indian automobile industry is withdrawn, the industry has matured enough and can handle international challenges. Direct competition will also encourage Indian developers to innovate.
