Toyota has launched an all-new Land Cruiser Prado for the Indian market today. The SUV looks thoroughly modern and butch, and will compete with a strong lineup of SUVs – the Mitsubishi Montero, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Land Rover Freelander 2.

Powered by a 3 litre, DOHC D-4D diesel engine which puts out 171 bhp@3400 rpm and 41.4 kgm of torque at 1600-2800 rpm, it will feature a typically rugged 4x4 system, as expected on a Land Cruiser. A 5-speed auto box will take care of the gear shifts while modern technologies like adaptive traction control, down-hill assist control and hill start assist will help you out when you get out of tricky situations. Kinetic dynamic suspension system, 3-zone climate control, multi information display, ride height control, parking assist and stability control are part of the package as well.

The 7-seater fourth-generation Prado will be priced at Rs. 52.74 lakh ex-showroom, Bangalore and Rs 52.4 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi. Toyota claims that the market in which the LC Prado will be available is 2500 units worth and they hope to sell 200 units in the first year itself. Of the third generation itself, Toyota sold over 650 units in the five years that it was available.

Look forward to a BSM review in the January issue.

I have a prado 2003 (4 cylinder GX) Recently replaced all the 4 old tires with new ones (Bridgestone of size 245/R65/17).But near the vehicle door, it is specified the tyre size as 265/R65/17. Is there any danger in driving the vehicle with the tires of lesser size? Please answer my question at the earliest

this must count as the biggest ripoff of the century. This version of the Prado retails in Kuwait for 10000 KWD which is about 16 Lakhs for the fully loaded petrol automatic version. Considering the indian government taxes of 114%. It should cost 34.24 lakhs. Lets add another two lakhs for consideration for diesel engine. Even then it comes to only 37 Lakhs. The remaining 15 lakhs Goes into Toyotas Pocket :-)...
