Toyota Kirloskar is on a high. With just one week into the opening of Etios bookings, the company has registered 7,086 bookings of the Etios, 1,200 of those coming from Mumbai alone.
The interest in the Etios has risen after Toyota announced the prices on December 1. The prices start at Rs 4.96 lakh for the base J version, ex-showroom Delhi and goes up to Rs 6.86 lakh for the top-end VX version.
Toyota Kirloskar will ramp up production of the Etios sedan to meet the demand, as waiting period runs into 4-5 months for the car. Production will begin at 2,000 units a month before being ramped up to 3,000 units by March-April.
Toyota Kirloskar has said that the company will launch a diesel version of the Etios by June-July. It will feature a fixed geometry turbocharged 1.4-litre D-4D engine that will produce around 70 bhp of peak power instead of the 87 bhp it produces in the variable geometry version of the engine found on the Toyota Corolla.
The Etios's hatchback version, the Liva will go on sale in March and is expected to be priced very competitively, starting around Rs 4-4.3 lakh. Toyota have denied the possibility of launching a sub-Liva compact on the Etios platform.
