The new Toyota Camry is now on sale and is priced at Rs 23.8 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Assembled at Toyota's facilities in Bidadi, near Bengaluru in Karnataka for the very first time, the Camry is offered with just a six-speed automatic for the moment. Power is delivered via a 2.5-litre, variable valvetrain (VVT-i) engine that develops 178 bhp.
While the Camry may be new on the outside, underneath over 90 per cent of the parts are borrowed from the previous car, proving that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. High on quality and with luxurious appointments, the new Camry hopes to strike a balance between comfort and features while maintaining its premium price positioning.
Though expectations were high, Toyota hasn't managed to change the price much from its previous avatar and in the process isn't as well priced as its locally assembled rivals like the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata that are priced a few lakh rupees lower. Will the strategy work or not remains to be seen.
