Tata Indigo Manza vs Suzuki Swift Dzire

With the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire enjoying a waiting period of up to five months, it took one launch to bring the mighty Dzire to some sense of reality. Tata's new kid on the block, the Indigo Manza could very well have done without the Indigo moniker. Yet that doesn't take away from the fact that the Manza is a big leap forward for Tata Motors. For one, Tata has left the job of  'engine'eering to Fiat and in return they now have two very decent motors under the hood of the Manza. The Quadrajet 90+ has enough grunt to take the Manza past 160 kph with ease, though it suffers from some turbo lag at low rpm. The Safire petrol is a refined unit that musters decent acceleration as well as driveability, with well chosen gear ratios. Not only is the Indigo Manza a better looking and finished car, it's also well loaded with features like the Blue Tooth music system with audio controls on the steering wheel, a digital real time tripmeter and safety kit like airbags and ABS on the higher end versions. Space isn't a constraint either with ample legroom at the front and rear, and enough space for five persons to fit in.

The Swift Dzire, on the other hand has a bit of contrived styling. Its looks are debatable, most comments bordering on the negative. Yet, the Dzire changed the way consumers looked at entry C-segment offerings. Maruti Suzuki worked hard on delivering a complete package, which it has. From the classier interiors, to the overall kit, the Dzire represents great value. The two engines, the 1.3 Multijet and 1.3 petrol have enough get up and go, thanks to the lower kerb weight of the Dzire. It means it delivers better fuel efficiency numbers than the Dzire. Rear seat space isn't as generous, but Maruti have made changes to the seat over the Dzire hatchback to offer comfortable seating. Ride quality is good, but the Manza trumps it. However, in the handling department, it is the Dzire that feels more sporty and responsive, with the Manza losing out due to its wooly steering and soft suspension setup

In the end, while the Indigo Manza is better equipped, with better space and at a more competitive price, the Dzire offers a much better drive and the chance of better resale value. Yet, when viewed in entirety, it is the Manza that wins the day for Tata Motors, but the Dzire has been a creditable runner up too.

Rear seat space of Manza is unmatched, compared to it the Dzire is like a cramped pigeon hole. If your going to be driven, then Manza is your car among the two. I hear Manza has more room than Merc E-class. Of course a Tata car is not as refined as Suzuki but for a near 6 lac petrol car with such offering and space, this is a better option. The white colour with alloy wheels looks good, but in looks the department both are near equals. While Manza looks a bit odd in looks, and is a bit reminiscent of Indigo, Dzire looks most awkward in design but a Swift with a boot is preferred by many so you have a market for it. Ride on the Manza is good, far better than the Indigo. Its sans all the NHV. Think Tatas have a winner here the only worry will be a better option coming from competition. Let us not forget Manza may eat in to the market types of Renault also if the diesel engine as good or comparable. In the long run Tatas still need to prove in the refinement department, especially inter

both cars peices of junk the most decent sedan today in India was the opel astra sadly Indians didnt get it and are now saying wow to thse pseudo sedans, the next best thing India has today in affordable range is the safari dicor and scorpio sedans arent suitable for indian roads till the complete quadrilaterla is completed and till the people learn to drive in lanes and not in opposite way that too on a freeway as evident on the mumbai pune xpressway

Manza is much better quality product from Tatas where as Dezire by suzuki is somewhat welded boot to swift designed by ameatur designers from Japan and trainees from India who have no idea of how a sedan should handle at cornering and how the boot and front should be made to join.Any way its a suzuki who are known for their prized designs like Omni death box,Egg shaped Estilo , and Roll over Jimny's

I have bought Dzire over Manza after much deliberations... and i am happy about my decision and just love my car... What really made me buy Dzire is truly Maruti's impressive performance and i can truly trust them with their product( my old car is 7 years old..absolutely no maintainance till date).. however the same cannot be said about Tata Manza.. However Manza scores well in terms of space...and please dont forget that "the waiting period" of any car only proves how well the car is truly Dzired!!!

Dear Sudheer, happy that you bought the dezire.....i would just like to inform you that the waiting period is not just because of the no. of bookings made for the car....Maruti..has a lot of models to manufacture...but they do not have the enough production line to continously manufacture the dezire...if they do it...in a seperate line, the wait period will be nil

I wouldnt buy a car called Indigo Manza because I would feel it has an Indigo hangover. And it does! The Test ride did nothing for me. But the Dzire just took my breath away! I bought it finally and got delivery in 1 day - pulled some strings. It is a fun car and never fails to amaze me. Maruti always has a trick up it's sleeve. BTW, those who think I am just sucking up to Maruti, well... I am!

Got delivery in one day.!!Stop the lies.. Dzire took your breathe away, when compared to Manza, Dude what are you OSM SUZUKI in disguise. Both the cars are a compromise but extreme value for money. Tata gives space and comfort, while the Dzire gives the maruti tag .

I thought BSM with all it's "Is it in your blood" type reviews would be the last company to suck up to these car makers. Turns out am wrong! It's not the first Maruti to win their praises these days.

I like BSM for the way the people on board talk about cars and bikes. Your passion for all things automotive shines through in most of the things that appear in the magazine as well as online. Then I come across tripe like this. What does it take to come out without sucking up to Maruti Suzuki? Read the last paragraph, it sounds as if you grudgingly had to admit that the Manza was better. I hope you can edit this and make it more objective. If you think the Dezire is better, say so however, if you think otherwise, please be transparent with the way you announce the winner.

I agree to most of the comments posted and am also quite attracted towards Manza. There is however a question that Tata cars are great for initial 50-60K kms. The problem starts after that. Is it true??? Moreveor with not much time left for VW polo to join the race, I am puzzled

Hi Nitin, Before commenting please take a test drive. And of course, pullback the driver seat of dzire to max (Anybody over 6 feet requires it)and try to sit on the back seat. Surprisingly not even your 5 year old can sit there. Take both vehicles (diesel)on a low speed on an uphill drive see for yourself, which one pulls better. Clip both above 90 kmph and apply harsh brake- comment on which one has a better road grip. Your comment on fuel efficiency surprised me,anyway I will check it myself again and come back. Till now I feel Manza stands way ahead of Dzire. Ganesh

Sir, I have taken both the cars on test drive. Although Manza is roomy spacewise, quality of workmanship (particularly regarding doors, dicky as well as engine bonnet) is not that much laudable. Definitely, it is much better car compared to Dzire. At any rate, I will go in for Manza, as it is really good car and VFM. Hats off to TATAs for such a wonderful car. But I hear, TATA's services are not that good as Maruti's. I hope that TATAs improve.

I don't understand why you guys try to sound so "politically correct" by listing pros and cons of the Dzire so many times in the last few lines. If the Manza deserves to win, then just say it!
