Taking it to the Maxximo

We knew it was coming, and here it is finally. The Mahindra Maxximo has the Tata Ace firmly in its sights and has got quite a few things going for it. Mahindra claims it is the world’s first mini-truck to be powered by a two-cylinder common-rail engine feature DOHC technology with four valves per cylinder. This last-mile distribution vehicle is the first product to emerge from Mahindra’s new Chakan plant, near Pune.

The CRDe motor develops 25 horses and 5.5 kgm of torque, and Mahindra assures a fuel consumption figure of 20 kpl for the Maxximo. Top speed is 70 kph. The Maxximo, with a 35 sq ft loading area, offers a rated payload of 850 kg. The mini-truck boasts of car-like features inside, like beige-and-tan two-tone seats with headrests, a tall and wide ergonomically designed cabin. The Maxximo also features drive-by-wire throttle and Load sensing Proportionate Valve brakes with Booster. It goes on sale in select markets by the end of this month and will be introduced across the country in a phased manner.
