For those who thought that the Safari was to meet a slow death with the introduction of the Aria, think again! Tata Motors is developing a newer version of the Safari and we have the first pictures here.

Not much is known about the new Safari, but to hazard a guess we believe that it will share the platform with the Aria crossover. This will make the Safari more rigid and a better handler than the current example. As a second generation platfrom, the Safari will also be able to liberate more space as is evident with the Aria. Lots of features such as ABS and airbags, automatic climate control as well as cruise control could figure on the new Safari. Importantly new electrics and single touch buttons like the one from the Aria would mean that the Safari will feel more akin to expensive SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Chevrolet Captiva.

Motive power is likely to come from the tried and tested 2.2-litre Dicor common rail diesel engine with near identical torque and power figures to the outgoing model. We also hope to see the Safari turn a tad lighter as well to make it more efficient and bring down its emission figures as one could expect Tata Motors to begin exports of the vehicle to Western Europe not long after its launch in India. With exports to western Europe part of Tata's big push in this decade, expect the Safari to also comply with EuroNCAP crash safety norms. Crucially, we expect Tata Motors to price the SUV competitively to differentiate it from the Aria, yet give it some sort of premium status over the current Safari. Watch this space for more updates!

I am a hardcore fan of Tata Safari..I own a modified 3L Dicor Ex,2006 which is giving me a superb mileage of 14Kpl..I really njoyd cruising it from 1 to 100000Kms..still very fresh..I am working in UAE but will be there in Kerala once in 2 months coz i miss him badly..He never put me in trouble on road..definitely far better than a cramped and unstable Scorpio..Will definitely go for the 2011 model as my next change..SAFARI ROCKZZZ..

Any news on the price and launch date of the new Safari.

I am a great fan of TATA vehicles since it is Indian. Drove a Tata Sumo for many years and was very happy. Gave it up recently due to its not complying to stringent crash safety norms. I went to buy the Aria, but found that the space next to the clutch pedal does not have space for keeping the left foot. Tried the Manza, same problem. I dont understand how TATA can commit such a fundamental mistake. I finally bought an Innova for myself and an SX4 for my brother. My rejection of TATA was only because of this. Can TATA correct this in their future versions?

I think in the new tata safari spied the quality and materials used should also be improved for the safari to be able to compete with Toyotas Innova and the likes and finally the engine and drivability should also be improved. Chauffeured car gold coast

I was and still is a great fan of the Safari for it being a great machine in terms of amazing off-roading. But when it comes to fit and finish, dash board style etc there is a lot to achieve. I'm working in the Gulf and here even the Pick-Ups have such styling and creature comforts of a a mordern saloon car. There is a moniker "The poor man's Prado" for the safari and i would agree to that only for the off-road capability, remaining is very much poor. Just consider, the engine in a Safari and a Toyota Prado. What is the overall weight the Safari engine is pulling and what is the Prado engine pulling?? The overall body from the A-Pilar onwards is too bulky, with puny 15/16 inch wheels. The track of the rear wheels should be increased to equal of the front. Overall height should be decreased a little. The rear over-hang should be decreased a little, it will bring more stabilty. Minimum 18" wheels. More pronounced Wheel arches both front and rear. The suspension should be tweaked to

safari is nice vehical. tata need to redesign it, to match the fortuner or endeavour, they can't afford to make mistake like they did for nano or aria, safari's assets are its size, comfort, and price.put in ur best tata u have a winner in ur hand , dn't make it a loser as u did for nano.
Posted by .danish at 3rd January,2011
what about the sumo tata? redesign the dash add some more power and 4wd , it vl b new lease of life for sumo .for safari its dated now plz redesign it again from the sratch.improve the quality now tata is global not local.drive one scorpio to notice the difference.

In the new avatar of Safari, Tata should : 1)improve quality of plastics in interior 2)reduce weight 3)reduce the turning radius

safari 2010 is good and very impressive by looks as a hard and massive SUV on a reasonable price , there must be beige interior in top model too, and should be enhanced by its strength in rear shockers

I personally like the safari very much its a superb car from out as well as jst think who gives you so much thing in this side of 10lakh,.the Toyota's Fortuner has a tag over 20lakh ,it has to offer the best but safari at this side is doing a great job the safari 2010 VTT is an excellent machine bt still it needs to improve in: 1)the suspensions- i feel as if i am in a boat,.while braking..stability really lacks in this 2)the 3rd row sitting should be front facing, convenient fr the 3rd row people something like the ARIA.. 3)the spare wheel should be place underneath to increase visibility.. 4)TATA should so something to get the Safari over the Toyota's Innova TRUST,Refined engine, lower the maintenance cost. 5)Put some sleek head and tail lights 6)lower the height little bit to overcome rolling-over at high speed turns 7)and a sunroof/moonroof at the top end model.THE GX AND VX 8)lower the weight of the vehicle b'coz 140 PS seems nothing in front of the Innova's 102 PS IF TATA REALLY

I had almost decided to buy Safari Dicor. When I knew that 2011 facelift is to be launced I felt so good. There are few attributes which really requires an improvement. First Clutch leaving space should be more so that shoes could not get stuck at top. Second interior should be better than current SUV's. Third Exterior should not get changed. It is the massive strength of the safari. Fourth Fuel efficiency should be high.If could manage roof mounted it would be an awsome one, It can kill the competition. Fifth, I cant wait more would like to see new safari 2011 at my home in the first week of Jauary 2011.
Posted by Navin at 23rd November,2010
2011-safari major areas to improve:-1. front & back lights shape(sleek/sporty). 2. exterior clading/body surface should be smooth/even at joints/curves. 3. paint shine quality should last longer(no fading). 4. clutch/brake/accelerator pedal should be light & leaving area should be more(shoes gets stuck). 5. dashboard & interior should be sleek & comfy(now confusing/rough). 6. improve add-on features. 7. competative mileage. *** IF THIS BASIC AREAS ARE TAKEN CARE OF SAFARI WILL RULE THE TERRAIN *** GOOD LUCK TATA MOTORS .

I had almost decided to purchase a TATA Safari. Power of engine and exteriors of safari are really awesome. But i was not impressed with the quality of interiors. Tata should improve on the quality of interior work also to as they can be competative as other brands.
Posted by Anuj Nigam at 30th September,2010
Plz don't make any changes in exteriors. The shape of the present Safari-Dicor is the strength or to say USP of this SUV. But TATA should think about the good quality interiors.
Posted by krishna singh at 29th September,2010
Expectation 1.At high speed 130-140 Km it gives smooth riding and stability does not skid when put to brake at high speed.

Even current safari is awsome. will be waiting for the newer one safali 2011. Hope interior would be more advanced.
Posted by Ranjeet at 10th September,2010
TATA - Please pay heed to all the comments well written by all my friends. An increase of price by a lakh of a rupees won't hamper the competetion if the features, interiors are upto date along with quality of plastics. Sunroof/moon roof for rear passengers will be a icing on the cake. The clutch, brake paddles are still hard as compared to other brands and need to be looked into. The tyres must come out by about 4-5 cm which will give a better road grip and stability. Also for heaven sake put better wipers. Your reputation of service centres need to improve.

i love safari......
Posted by deepak at 7th September,2010
i love tata safari. it should need integrated stereo and control on steering wheel. automatic lights and wipers. tyre tonic. digital displayon gear lever. sunroof. tray on seats. gps map. improve to a new dash board. cruise control. electrical mirror folding. new reading lamps. headlight washer.

I THINK TATA SAFARI IS THE BEST VEHICLE FOR CLIMBING ON THE MOUNTAIN..
Posted by Pushpraj Malik at 2nd September,2010
With current safari, only price is tempting. It would be great, if it is reveals executive looks as well. TATA need to work on Safari serioulsy as it can vanish all other SUVs (Endeavour/Fortuner) if it competes all SUVs in features. I noted following points - 1. Alloys (seriously need to re-design - similar to Land Rover). 2. Should reveal executive looks as well. 3. Interiors (seriously need to change). 4. Interior's quality etc. * Tata Should keep in mind that Yesterday's luxary are todays necessity, so price can go up to 1 - 1.5 lac but should have all features like- bluetooth, cruise control etc.

It rather looks like some Suzuki SUV by the look of the side mirrors...similar to swift.Lets see if tata comes out with it.
Posted by Sushrut Athale at 19th August,2010
From the pic.. i think it's more like a Landrover with typical bonnet and headlamp design. Is this a case of mistaken identity?
Posted by Harshil at 15th August,2010
Well i'm just getting curious that what will be launch date & what will be the price..well what ever it be it should be latest till march 2012 :D cant wait for more time.. Just few things are needed in safari 2011- <1> New Powerful engine (170PS) <2> A moon roof for middle row <3> Cruise control else everything is good :D
Posted by Saurabh at 14th August,2010
I only hope that Tata Motors make use of some of the tech-goodies they have laid hand on post takeover of JLR. All we ask for is handling of LR2, finish of a RR Sport, and smoothness of Jag XK!
Posted by balaji at 13th August,2010

i cant wait anymore to see the new safari in flesh. for sure i will be buying one when it launched. i think it's worth waiting for as i 've witnessed the jump in quality that tat cars have now . at least from vista and manza. few things i am expecting from the new safari is:better fit n finish with soft feel interiors. please no more rattles. roof mounted a/c vents 4 all 3 rows. front facing 3rd row. abs with all 4 wheel disc brakes. climate control. 17" wheels and ofcourse please dont make any major change in the shape.

Good news is that Tata vehicles are constantly impoving their quality. Its getting ready to face the competition from global players like Honda, Vw, GM etc. with Vista, Manza, Aria and now new Safari. Wow great going tataz.
Posted by Sushanth at 23rd July,2010

Hope they bring baack seirra platform with better cut dies and lots of parts from Land rover will be a hit like seirra,No other car InIndia offered luxuries like powersteering, power windowos etc at that time when suzuki was not even got out of carburated versions
Posted by AKR at 17th April,2010
This is not the all new Safari, this is just the face-lift safari due for beginning of next year (2011).
Posted by Kaus at 16th April,2010
Guys, dont u think this is d same old Safari with just a new front end??
Posted by Guruprasad at 17th April,2010
Front end new may be...but it matters a lot if it comes with Standard ABS, Airbags, 4WD [thats a lot for me] and some goodies like Blue&Me, and also a power window for fifth door [my very old wish which not yet any company has made into reality in either hatchbacks or MUVs or SUVs...]
