Global iconic luxury car maker Rolls-Royce today said the Indian market will also be covered by its recent recall of 'Ghost' model for a possible fire hazard.
"It affects cars in India. We cannot give the numbers as we do not share as a company policy. We are already in touch with the customers here and the process is in progress," Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Regional Director Paul Harris told reporters here.
When asked how long would the process to actually rectify the problem take, he said: "Just about one-and-a-half hours."
Earlier this month, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that in the US it was recalling 589 units of the Ghost model, manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010, because of a faulty circuit board that can lead to overheating of water pump and even lead to vehicle catching fire.
The company today launched the extended wheelbase version of the Ghost in North India at a price tag starting from Rs 3.04 crore. The standard Ghost starts from Rs 2.07 crore.
Commenting on the Indian market, Harris said: "It is definitely one of the key markets for us. Globally, it is in the top 10 markets for us and entering the top 5."
He, however, did not share the figures on sales that the company had so far in India.
The company sells its Phantom and Ghost models in India and has two dealerships with one each in the national capital and in Mumbai.
Last year, the company globally had sold 2,711 units; it has already crossed the figure this year.
Harris said the company's target of around selling 100 cars a year in India is possible considering the economic growth the country has witnessed.
"Our progress is towards that desire and we are happy with that," Harris said.
