Shreyans has just sent out an official press release, confirming what we had said more than a month ago. Ferrari has appointed the Porsche and Ducati distributor as its Indian distributor, thus ending speculations that were on for months. In fact, BS Motoring was among the first to announce that Shreyans would be the Indian distributor, ruling out all other possibilities that were being talked about.

Shreyans, better known for its Porsche and Ducati association will open its first dealership in New Delhi by mid-year and will open its second dealership in Mumbai by the end of the year. The two dealerships will form the first phase of the expansion, though there is no talk about which cities will form part of the second phase.

Just as we had announced, all four models from the current Ferrari stable, including the just released FF four-seat model will be made available in India. Starting at the bottom of the pyramid will be the V8 powered California convertible, priced at around Rs 2 crore, on-road. Next would be the 572 bhp 458 Italia coupe, priced in the region of Rs 2.7-3 crore, on-road. The V12 equipped 599 GTB and the FF will be similarly priced, in the region of Rs 3-3.5 crore.

The New Delhi dealership that will open first will carry the corporate Ferrari identity and will have designated areas for individualisation/customisation. Ferrari Service will also be provided in the same facility and we expect Shreyans to follow the similar model of 'flying doctor' adopted for its Porsche service to be made available for Ferrari customers as well.

The appointment of Shreyans will help existing owners of Ferraris, who so far have relied on independent garages and experts for maintenance. India has about 50 Ferraris (give or take), with the largest number of them being F430 coupes. Other models include the V8 360 Modena, the V8 355 and 348 as well as the odd 599 GTB and 575M. More classic examples of the 328 and 308 are also in India (read our website for driving impressions of the 308, 328, 360, 430 and 612 Scaglietti).
