This was supposed to be the year of the MPV and after Maruti's Ertiga, the Evalia from Nissan is the next big thing to enter the segment.
The Evalia is a proper van in that it comes with sliding rear doors and windows that don't completely open. That gives it commercial feel that isn't too appealing for families, but compared to the other MPVs in its class, the Evalia will be easier to step-up to. It's a front wheel drive vehicle, so the dynamics will be more or less similar to that of a car, save for a higher centre of gravity, of course
The Evalia comes powered by the 1.5-litre dCi engine that makes 84 bhp of peak power and 20.4 kgm of torque, which is more than sufficient to propel this people carrier. It comes reasonably well equipped as well, with even the base version getting power steering, power mirrors, a music system with AUX inputs and ABS with EBD as standard. Stepping up to the XE Plus variant gets you driver and passenger airbags. As you go higher up the order, the XL variant gets keyless entry, AC vents at the back and a double DIN music system. You get all that plus fog lamps, push button start as well as a reversing camera on the top-end XV variant. Now that's definitely going to take the fight to the Innova!
The prices for the Evalia are as follows:
Rs 8.49 for the XE
Rs 8.92 for the XE Plus
Rs 9.49 for the XL
Rs 9.99 for the XV
All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
