Skoda has launched the refreshed version of the Fabia today. The car was initially showcased at the Geneva Motor Show and features minor cosmetic changes such as new headlamps, bumper and grille. Overall the car's looks are now reminiscent of larger Skoda models. But the main change to the Fabia is under the hood. The car comes powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine (1.6 MPi) found in the Volkswagen Vento and Polo, a 1.2-litre 75bhp petrol engine (1.2 TDi) and a 1.2 litre 75bhp (1.2 MPi) diesel engine.

The interior of the car comes with chrome inserts, ivory interiors and soft-touch dashboard. All models come with airbags and unique to class safety features such as Engine Braking Control (EBC) and Dual Rate brake assist. The car also boasts largest luggage compartment in class and one of the most spacious passenger cabins in the segment.

The lower grille had also received fair amount of makeup, and with the low air dam at front, the car gave an impression of a toned up version of the old Fabia. The car length has also been increased by 8 mm and comes quite close to the line of control between a compact and an entry mid car. The height has also, gone up by 8mm, and the ground clearance by 12mm, which is…huge. Read more at http://automate4u.wordpress.com/2010/10/13/15/

With the experience of Tata Aria visit still fresh in my mind, I was in a dilemma when I was asked to visit the showroom to have a first hand experience of the new Fabia. The reason was simple-with the kind of regard I had for the old Fabia, I didn’t want to see a stripped down version and change the image I had in my mind of the first true luxury hatch in India. But, I was left with no choice and had to go to check her out. One first look at the car and I slightly felt comfortable. The car, though cheap by around 70k compared to the previous avatar, did not look as bad as I had expected. Instead, the fresh new face, with the wider peeled headlamps and bold new grille and the monstrous looking fog lamps, gave it a character, like some of its higher priced siblings. The flow lines from the sides of the bonnet gel with the upper grille so well, and looked inviting. The lower grille had also received fair amount of makeup, and with the low air dam at front, the car gave an impression

1.2 TDI is diesel not petrol as mentioned in the article. The 1.2 petrol engine is 1.21 MPI

So how does one choose between this and the Polo 1.6-Based on looks alone I guess? And can one expect the Punto to get the 1.4 T-Jet of the new Linea and change the game? Or can Maruti move its a** and give the SX4 engine in the Swift? Too much to ask for, innit? Doc
