JK Tyres today launched its new initiative, JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Rally Championship', which will kickstart from here on August 18.
The championship, being conducted under the aegis of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India and offering a prize money of nearly Rs 50 lakh, has attracted 30 four-wheeler enteries from across the country in the expert class.
"They will participate in all six rounds," JK Tyres and Industries Head (Motorsport)Sanjay Sharma told reporters here.
At least 20 enteries are expected in the local class, which is open for first-timers and companies based in the city that would be hosting a round of the championship, he said.
The inaugural TSD Championship would be held across India and comprises six rounds, Sharma said, adding promoters have provided an opportunity for vehicle constructors and manufacturers to compete and win the championship.
Tata Motors and Volkswagen have confirmed participation, while Mahindra, Maruti and Ford would also be seen in the fray, Sharma said.
"Maruti and Ford have already established their credentials in this form of the sport," he added.
The championship would put to test participants' navigational skills rather than just driving, as average speeds would be within speed limits as stipulated by law, Berunda Adventure Club CEO K Prasad said.
The first round would cover approximately 265 km starting from Golden Gate Properties in Yeshwanthpur on Aug 19 and run through Magadi, Ramanagar, Bidadi, Kanakapura and Sarjapur before finishing at Love Shack at Indiranagar, Prasad said.
While Golden Gate Properties are the event sponsors for the first round here, Reckitt Benckiser are support sponsors while Woodland are Green Apparel sponsors, Prasad said.
