NEW! Ford Fiesta test and review
Seriously impressive car that could set the cat among the pigeons

A 13-point guide to the new Fiesta and why we think it's so good:

1. The new Fiesta stands out, just like the Hyundai Verna. Its stacked headlamps and heavy nose area do attract attention. The car looks best from the front three-quarters where it looks sporty.

2. It looks quite nice in profile too, but if you stare at the rear fender area you can't help but notice the large metal area that makes it look heavy. From the rear the car appears to be taller and 'stout-er' as a fellow journalist commented. While driving on the road, we viewed it driving parallel to a Fiat Linea and the bulkiness and narrowness becomes a bit more prominent. Despite use of 15-inch wheels, we feel that enthusiasts may want to shift to 16-inchers to reduce heaviness. But the inner wheel arches may or may not allow the use of larger wheels, something we may need to check in the future.

3. Ford's use of a high waistline and tapering roof around the C-pillar don't rob it of headroom, nor do you feel claustrophobic once on the inside. The amount of legroom and knee room (helped by recessed front seats) is quite decent and the rear seats have good support too.

My friend test drove the car and had this to say. "driving the new fiesta is like having orgasm without sex"!! I hence had to try it too. The handling was no doubt exceptional but its 1.5 liter petrol motor did feel under-powered in straight ahead accelerations. Ford will need to offer a bigger engine to get away with that price or else Harshavardhan will be right and the car would only belong to the Dezire, Aveo category rendering its price tag meaningless.

Every feature in the car is included in others, space is minimal including boot space, not so good looking at the showroom, Ford's only cat happens to be the Figo. The Fiesta really just makes the grade to Dzire levels and not to SX4/Linea levels. Passing the buck is easy for amateurish bsmotoring reviews, but we consumers have to live in it. The only ones opting for this car are the really diehard Ford fans. If this car sells over 800 units from its second month, I would qualify that a huge resounding success.

GREAT CAR CUTE CAR LOOKS NICE,BUT THE PRICE IS A MATTER IN SUCH A HUGE COMPETITION FORD SHOULD THINK FOR REASONABLE TAG 8 TO 10 IS A MAX THEN THEY WILL ZOOM AND BOOM BUT I DON'T THINK THEY WILL BE REASONABLE AS PER HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

Why change the engine specs for India. It is sold with the 1.6 engine accross teh world. Hyundai was atleast honest and brought in what they had accross the globe along with a 6 speed gear box. The Indian maket is ripe for such cars but companies like ford should know better than to still think Indians need to be played down. Give them a lower spec engine to keep them happy. WHY the deisel would have been a much better performer with the 1.6 engine.... FE is important but not to the level where i start thinking of other cars or incrase in the turbo lag.... Upsets me cause this would have been a option i would consider but i somehow feel i am getting a hand me down from ford...

What about the interiors? Are they drab and ugly like the ikon in Grey shades. I personally like light interiors in my cars, beiges and all.

they should price it closer to the dzire and manza if they want it to sell.

Oh Ford, the hatch for me please!

The backside and the dashboard looks pretty ugly IMHO.

Overall, seems a good package...but some design elements don't quite complement each other. The very bland, Toyota-esque tail lamp cluster is in stark contrast to the garish dashboard! Also, most people won't be able to tell it apart from the fluidic Verna at least in profile! Doc Ford began with the 1.6 Ikon that was hailed as THE driver's car. Then the Fiesta was a toned-down version and this seems to be further watered down.

looks nice, good competition building up in 7-10lakhs segment.
