Just the other day, fuel prices shot up once again and the look on the average commuter’s mug (including mine) was more than a bit disturbed. And the prices don’t look as if they are going to recede any time soon. That, along with a whole bunch of environmental problems, daunts us in these fragile times and the automobile industry needs nothing short of a revolution to keep up. For the last ten years, French tyre-maker Michelin has been bringing together the greenest and cleanest next-generation automotive technologies in what is known as the Challenge Bibendum. This is a multi-layered programme where not just members of government, academia and industry interact, but promising new technologies are showcased as well. The 2011 edition was held at Berlin this year and we were there to witness what could be the future of personal mobility. Here are some promising examples.
