Mercedes C Class diesel launched in India

German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today launched the diesel variant of its C-Class sedan in Pune priced up to Rs 42.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The C-Class will be made available in two trim levels, first is the C220 CDI Style and the second is the C220 CDI Avantgarde. The 'C 220 CDI Style' variant is priced at Rs 39.9 lakh.

"With the launch of the C 220 CDI we now present the complete portfolio of the new generation C-Class to our Indian customers. The commencement of local production of the new C 200 Avantgarde petrol within three months of its India debut, reiterates the company's commitment of providing customers fascinating products which are made in India," said Eberhard Kern, managing director & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mercedes-Benz India.

Mercedes-Benz has also commenced the local production of the petrol variant of the new C-Class which was introduced last year as a CBU. In keeping with the global availability constraints for the new C-Class owing to the overwhelming demand across the world, the petrol variant was introduced last year. The diesel variant launched today will be available as a CBU.

According to company, the new C-Class’ 4-cylinder diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient in the segment with a fuel efficiency of 19.27 km (ARAI) per litre with a large fuel tank capacity of 66 litres. In keeping with the global availability constraints for the new C-Class owing to the overwhelming demand across the world, the petrol variant was introduced last year.

"The C-Class perfectly reflects our Live the Best philosophy, which is to delight our discerning customers by providing them with value added new product offerings. It also offers the best fuel efficiency and the highest torque in the segment which will add great value to our discerning customers," he added.

The current Chakan plant of Mercedes Benz India has an annual capacity of 20,000 units and Mercedes-Benz will be looking to expand that capacity soon.The plant produces currently five models – C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, ML-Class and GL-Class.
