Mercedes-Benz India have just launched the new SLK in New Delhi. This third-gen SLK, codenamed R172 takes a lot of design inspiration from the SLS AMG, yet comes across as an evolution in terms of design when compared to the last car.
The new SLK is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 Blue Efficiency motor with 306 bhp on tap. It can accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 5.6 seconds and can go on to a top speed of over 250 kph. Provided with third-gen piezo injectors, the SLK350 Blue Efficiency comes with Start-Stop system as standard across the model range. With a drag co-efficient of just 0.30, the new SLK promises to be as efficient as it is quick.
In terms of features, the new SLK comes with a Magic Sky roof, a first on the car that features a panoramic glass roof instead of a metal one. The whole mechanism continues to stay in metal as before, though, but there's an increase in the overall glass area.
On the inside, the car comes with the usual raft of features including Attention Assist and Parktronic as standard. The new SLK also has a 5-star EuroNCAP crash rating.
The new SLK starts at Rs 61.9 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. More variants, such as the SLK250 and hopefully a hotted-up AMG version can be expected in the future.
