The time was perfect. A golden glow at the edge of the windscreen signalled a setting sun. Streaks of dust blew right across the track as a dry wind tried to calm the simmering track on a Saturday evening. Two hours on the Buddh International Circuit and what lay between the three-pointed star on the bonnet and my sweaty palms at the end of the Start-Finish straight was a motor that might just take flight into history books.
For all its worth, the M156 is, umm, quite the knockout. Forget what the environmentalists may have to say for a moment and it’s the equivalent of a memorable upper cut to that annoying bully in school. The sun may set on it, but it doesn’t take away what a fine piece of automotive workmanship it truly is. That said, I can’t wait to get its twin-turbocharged new cousin to go head-on with that other twin-turbocharged rival from Munich.
