Maruti SX4 to go diesel!

They came, they saw, they conquered. Albeit for not very long. But Maruti Suzuki wants to make a comeback with the SX4 and it finally has got the right engine for it. Besides the 1.6-litre VVT petrol, it now wants to add the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine to the range, except that it won't be producing the usual 75 bhp. Instead, this motor will produce 90 bhp@4000 rpm as well as 21 kgm plus of peak torque using a variable geometry turbocharger.

The same spec motor also powers the Fiat Linea and Tata Indigo Manza. Production for the new Maruti Suzuki diesel began immediately after Maruti resumed its activities post its maintenance period in late-December/early-January. The new SX4 diesel will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Verna diesel, Volkswagen's Vento diesel and Ford Fiesta diesel. Pricing is expected to be in the region of Rs 7-8 lakh and the car will be launched sometime during late February. Watch this space.
