While news of the impending launch of the SX4 saloon has been doing rounds, Maruti Suzuki has quietly slipped in a new version of the car today.
The facelifted SX4 has marginal changes, including a new honeycomb grille, a new optional body kit on the ZXI, new 10-spoke alloy wheels, refreshed interiors with beige tones - thus effectively making it two tone and new illuminated stereo controls on the steering wheel. Much needed additions include a USB-friendly audio system, a new auto-climate control system and radio antenna in the windshield.
The biggest change is left for what is under the hood. The 1.6-litre DOHC engine now gets variable valve timing. This has been done to make the car Bharat Stage-IV ready. Power has increased from 101 bhp to a little over 103 bhp, while max torque stays pretty much the same - 14.8 kgm@4100 rpm.
The other big change is the addition of a 4-speed automatic option to the car. The auto transmission will be available only in the ZXI version with the option of leather seats, while the manual version will be available in both VXI and ZXI variants.
