Maruti Suzuki launches Ertiga at Rs 5.89 lakh

Maruti's first modern MPV, the Ertiga has been launched today with a lip-smacking price tag that starts at just Rs 5.89 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Ertiga is what Maruti is calling a 5+2 seat MPV. Positioned as the Lifestyle Urban Vehicle, the Ertiga is designed to create a new segment, just below the likes of the Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova. Other manufacturers are watching the Ertiga very closely and will launch similar offerings in the coming years.

Here are the prices of the Ertiga, ex-showroom Delhi (all prices introductory)

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga LXi: Rs 5.89 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXi: Rs 6.60 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZXi: Rs 7.30 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga LDi: Rs 7.30 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VDi: Rs 7.90 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZDi: Rs 8.45 lakh

The Ertiga is offered with two powerplants, a brand new K14 B, in-line four petrol with 94 bhp@6000 rpm and the Multijet diesel with 88.8 bhp@4000 rpm. The K14 B features VVT or variable valve timing, while the Multijet diesel is offered with a variable geometry turbo.

Based on the Swift platform and extended by 310 mm, the Ertiga is a monocoque build, unlike the Xylo or Innova and features McPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam suspension setup at the rear. The petrol Ertiga is designed to deliver 16.02 kpl (ARAI), while the diesel Ertiga has a figure of 20.77 kpl.

Apart from the frugal and fun engines engine options and good driving dynamics, the Ertiga also comes with an impressive list of features.

The LXi and LDi levels get features like the multi-information display in the instrument cluster which shows instantaneous and average fuel consumption as well as the distance to empty. internally adjustable rear view mirrors and a plethora of cubby holes to store knick knacks in.

From the VXi and VDi onwards, you get power windows and key-less entry and the 4-speaker USB compatible music system as standard. The stereo gets upgraded to a six-speaker system on the top-of-the-line variants. The ZXi and ZDi models also get steering mounted audio controls.
You also get electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors with turn signal indicators, front and rear fog lamps, while the rear washer and wiper assembly is reserved only for the top-end models.


On the safety front, all the diesel models get ABS as standard while it's standard on the ZXi and optional on the VXi model. The top models get driver and passenger airbags as standard kit.
