Another Italian brand is making its way into India and this time around it is Maserati. This Fiat sub-brand is getting into India, courtesy Shreyans Motors who incidentally have been appointed the Ferrari distributor for the country a short while ago.
Maserati will officially launch its operations in India on April 6 in New Delhi. The brand will begin operations in the two cities of New Delhi and Mumbai and will expand to other cities later. Unlike its sister-brand Ferrari, Maserati are priced a bit more reasonably, though prices will still range north of Rs 1 crore.
The Quattroporte is Maserati's flagship sports saloon and features a 4.7-litre V8 engine with power ranging from 425-440 bhp. Probably the first of the ultra-luxe sports saloons, the Quattroporte's competition includes the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera, both of which are available in the Rs 1.3-2.4 crore price bracket. Beautiful to look at, the Ferrari derived V8 also sounds fabulous as we discovered in our January issue shootout featuring the Panamera, Mercedes-Benz S500 and a Quattroporte GTS.
Prices for the Maserati haven't been announced yet, but we expect the Quattroporte to be priced around Rs 1.3 to 1.5 crore while the GranTurismo and GranCabrio could be priced around Rs 1.5 to 1.9 crore. But here's the best bit. Maserati is known to be developing a saloon under the Quattroporte and an SUV that could take on the Porsche Cayenne. Watch this space to see how all of it pans out.
