After the Cayenne, it's now the turn of the Panamera to receive a diesel motor. The sports saloon now has a fourth engine configuration under the hood after the V6, V8 and V8 turbocharged versions and the first of the sticky fuel ones.
The Panamera diesel uses the same tried-and-tested 3.0-litre diesel motor found on the Cayenne. This VW group engine produces 250 bhp@3800-4400 rpm and a very impressive 56.1 kgm from 1750 to 2750 rpm. Available only in rear-wheel drive guise, the car can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 6.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 242 kph.
Importantly, the presence of the Panamera diesel has helped Porsche reduce its overall CO2 basket figures. With just a figure of just 167 g/km, the Panamera rates favourably when compared to its compatriots in the field. With a fuel efficiency of 6.3 kpl/100 km or nearly 16 kpl on optional low-frictional tyres or 6.5 kpl/100 km on standard tyres, the Panamera diesel with its 80 litre fuel tank boasts of a range in excess of 1200 km. Porsche claims that it's good enough for the Panamera to run from Berlin in Germany to Bologna in Italy.
The rest of the car stays the same. Porsche India is currently taking orders for the Panamera diesel, with global deliveries of the car starting August.
