Kizashi attack

Suzuki has bold plans for the US market. They recently unveiled the new 2010 Suzuki Kizashi, a new mid-size sedan aimed squarely at the Camry/Accord/Fusion gang. Suzuki has always been a strong player in the small car scene globally but never really went beyond that, until now. Suzuki is now aiming for a chunk of the premium segment pie and with their latest offering; they seem to be on track. Suzuki positions the Kizashi as an offering equipped with the handling and craftsmanship of a European sports sedan while retaining the Suzuki values. Styling is crisp and the lines are pleasing and pretty fresh as well. And the spec-list is pretty neat too. Multi-link rear suspension, high performance dampers, 18-inch wheels and Akebono brakes together aim for sporty handling while retaining good ride quality. A VVT-equipped 2.4 litre four-cylinder mill provides the power while a six-speed manual or CVT auto transmission will lay the power down on the road. Figures? Expected to be between 180-200 hp. The sexy exhaust is standard. An all-wheel drive system integrated with stability control will be an optional on sedan. Interiors also aim for a more premium feel with clean lines while eight air bags take safety up a notch.

Suzuki’s attack on the premium segment of sedans has resulted in a pretty neat offering with crisp styling and a good spec-list and being Suzuki, we expect it to be priced pretty neatly also. The good news is that we expect Maruti Suzuki to bring the Kizashi to India soon after the US market launch. So, get ready to forget Suzuki’s small car image and welcome a more up market Suzuki in India soon enough.
