JAGUAR XF S vs Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI - Leap of Faith
The XF finally gets an oil burner. And it's out to give a German a run for its money

A bump is a great leveller. You ask how? Well, it had to be just this one bump that made all the difference. Like always, the newer entrant, the Jaguar XF S diesel in this case was the first to be taken hard across the bump. It was to be a nice cornering shot, with some 'action'. One thing led to another and the XF was flying across, getting close to the centreline, the inner two wheels going into lift off.

The E-Class, followed later and it behaved like that annoying little child in third grade who scores the highest marks while being lauded with the sports student of the year award. It just refused to do anything but just turn in and sod off! It's a classic case of the lovable ruffian meeting the quintessential nerd. But this time around, the atmosphere has more than enough vitriol to burn a hole through these very pages.

Let's get on with the Jaguar then. Bump, no bump the Jag looks like a million bucks. It may have been around in India for sometime now, but the XF still catches the fancy of the young and old alike. In fact some even continue to suggest that the car looks twice its price – so maybe Jaguar can ask for more from their XJ! The way the car manages to mix muscle with svelte lines is fabulous in a world filled with crisp looking German saloons. Which brings me to the more important story on the E-Class. Its anonymous looks may win many friends in the corporate world, but here, today it somehow managed to be upstaged by the Jaguar. What the Jaguar's design has is soul, something the cold exteriors of the E-Class don't seem to communicate.

Buy a Merc, use it well, pass it on to the great grand children and bid goodbye to the world when time arrives... And the car excels in PRICE and MILEAGE too in comparison.. though marginal, is relevant.
