Is the Focus coming next year?

SCOOP! Ford India has started to put its past behind, albeit to some degree. It has discontinued the Ikon, pushed the current Fiesta down and called the Fiesta Classic, previewed the new Fiesta saloon three months before its launch and continues to evade questions on the new Fiesta hatch. We don't know why Ford India believes that the premium hatch won't work, (they are apparently worried about cannibalisation of the Fiesta Classic/New Fiesta saloon and vice-versa), but we think that the new Fiesta hatch will work. They only have to go to the sales charts of the Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo's higher variants to get a good idea.

Nevertheless, Ford India is continuing to bring more models into the country. And we have first hand information that Ford will bring in several cars on the B, C and CD platforms. One of which is the Focus. Ford India is currently contemplating bringing in the car by 2012 with quite some degree of localisation, post the new CKD rules. Designed to be a sort-of entry-level D-segment saloon, the Focus is positioned to take on the likes of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Laura and VW Jetta. Sources close to BS Motoring have said that Ford is seriously working towards bringing in the Focus to India - one of its eight new models that Ford plans to launch in the next 3-4 years.
