Next-gen Civic shows off next line of Honda design hotness
MATTER:
WHAT IS IT?
The Honda Civic Concept for 2012. Believe it or not, the Civic is into its 9th generation here on this concept, and we have to say, it does look quite hot. No spectacular improvements over the current generation design, but it’s that ‘little bit better, little bit more’ effect coming into play here. Steeply raked windscreens, blacked out glass-work and roof gel nicely with the sharp and proportionate design. Honda will deploy gasoline-electric and CNG-running models in the US of A.
WHY IS IT HERE?
If nine generations of Civics have shown anything, it is that it works extremely well in real-life and keeping it fresh is the key in this ever-changing marketplace. The Si versions are the hotter ones of the lot.

Mid-engined Porsche proto showcases futuristic hybrid racing tech
MATTER:
WHAT IS IT?
It’s the Porsche 918 RSR. Here’s the recipe – take one part Porsche 918 concept car, plonk in a massively powerful hybrid drivetrain from the 911 GT3 R hybrid, paint it in a colour scheme that reminds you of the Gulf colours but isn’t really, and voila! You have a hot new Porsche to wow everyone at the Detroit Motor show! A 563 hp V8 is further complimented by a 150 bhp electric drive system to provide a maddening 767 horses. Green and mean. Just like the Hulk.
WHY IS IT HERE?
The world’s oil reserves will soon run out, the carbon emissions will nearly choke us all, Twilight will have another sequel coming and hybrids are supposedly our saviour…really, do we have to remind you over and over again?

‘I’ll have two Big Macs, two large orders of fries, and a diet coke. I’m sorry, what were you saying again?’

PRI-US INTO THE FUTURE
INTRO:
Funky Toyota Prius concepts might just take the hybrid game a step higher
MATTER:
WHAT IS IT?
The next generation of the car that started the eco-car ball rolling – the Toyota Prius. More specifically, the Prius C Concept and the Prius V Concept. The ‘V’ is the good-to-go family vehicle which has noticeable improvements over the current generation – 17 kpl despite the size, lightweight panoramic moon roof, LED head lamps, and lots of customizable spacious interior space to help your family be comfortable. The ‘C’ is the one which actually looks nicer! It’s the sportier, sharper and trendier member of the Prius family, meant as a clean urban round-about.
WHY IS IT HERE?
Because Toyota wants everyone in your family to be driving around in a member of the Prius family. Plus, the old Prius is getting a bit long in the tooth, so a new gen is on the way to keep things fresh.

‘Goddam hippies! That’s about as powerful as my lawn-mower! Over to the Dodge stall!’

INTRO:
The 1-Series M Coupe might be small but it’s got bite!
MATTER:
WHAT IS IT?
Like a pit bull terrier, it might look small but you’d sure be praying for your life once it really starts showing what it can do. It’s the cheapest, smallest BMW ever to carry the hallowed M badge, and surely it makes more sense than an X6 M. Styling is instantly likable, aggressive without being too racer-boy-ish. To get an idea of what a bomb it is, consider this – it does the 0-200 kph jig in less than 17.3 seconds, courtesy the twin-turbo 3-litre inline-6 under that sculpted bonnet. Compact, fast, good-looking – what more do you want?
WHY IS IT HERE?
‘Coz the Germans have a thing for the stuff small, powerful and brutally effective – look at the H&K MP5 sub-machine gun. It’s already faster than the V-10 M5 around the N’Ring. Woohoo!
THE FAT AMERICAN BY-STANDER SAID:
‘Oh yeah? Let’s see what it does against my Charger. Bet you won’t be laughing then. See you at the strip!’
BURGER RATING: 4 burgers
