Indian lads Arya and Raj of Rayo racing took home top honours in the Asian Kart Open Championship held at the Macau International Karting Circuit in the Junior and Senior class respectively in the Rotax category.
Neither of them had it easy, but Arya Gandhi, the younger of the two drivers, had exams in school which meant he missed day one of practice. Despite that and a slow start in the initial heats, he mustered up a good performance in the final. Towards the end of the race, he came under a lot of pressure, but held on to win the junior class.
In the senior class, Raj Ganatra had 49 other drivers to compete against. Smart tyre strategy from the Rayo acing team ensured that Raj was well poised to overtake the field. He managed a second place finish and that was enough to hand him the championship.
After this victory, Rayo racing has become one of the first Indian racing outfits to win internationally without any foreign assistance. This is a first of many, we're sure.
