GM has unveiled the 2011 Cruze Eco at the New York Auto Show. The Cruze Eco is powered by a 1400cc Ecotec turbocharged engine with variable valve timing that achieves an estimated 17 kpl in the highway tests in the US. GM says that their Cruze Eco delivers hybrid-like fuel efficiency figures without the added costs and complexities that come with a hybrid.

The better fuel consumption figure is achieved with the help of ultra-low rolling resistance tyres, weight reduction and improved aerodynamics. The RS package is an optional extra to give it that sporty look. Whether this engine will come to India remains to be seen, so keep checking back for more updates.
