The Geneva motor show is generally considered to be one of the most important international motor shows on the calendar with a lot of automakers looking to launch or unveil their new models there. Here's a short list of what to expect there this year.
Audi RS4 Avant
Well, now they've done it. Audi has plonked the brilliant 4.2-litre high-revving engine from the RS5 coupe into the practical body of the A4 Avant. What that gets you is 450 hp of V8 goodness which you can use to drop-off your kids at school and bring home the groceries in and such. Oh, and it's the facelifted version of the new A4, so even better!
The engine will be handbuilt at Audi's plant in Hungary and will give immense pleasure to whoever is in charge of the accelerator. Launch control too makes an appearance, allowing the driver to get away from a stop to 100 kph in a mere 4.7 seconds. Top speed is restricted to 250 kph, though a quick change to 280 kph is also available. Wink, wink!
That's not the whole story though, the car is quite fuel efficient too, thanks to clever selection of ratios in the seven-speed S-tronic gearbox. The longer gear ratios at the top enable you to cruise along while getting around 9 kpl. A crown-centre differential, ala the Audi RS5 is also bog standard here and so is the usual 40:60 torque split. This however can shift to as much as 70 per cent to the front or 85 per cent to the rear, depending on road conditions. Another bit of good news? The ESP can be completely turned off! And to bring it to a halt are massive, ventilated petal discs all around. Clearly, this is one station wagon you wouldn't want to mess with.
