And it's finally here! Mercedes-Benz has launched the G-Wagen in India. The car that makes it India is the AMG fettled G55 that comes with a 5.5-litre V8 under the hood. The car puts out a power of 507 bhp at 6100rpm. It comes with a torque figure of 71.4 kgm at 2750 rpm.

As for acceleration figures? Well the G-Wagen does weigh a whopping 2.5 tonnes, but this doesn't stop it from hitting the tonne in 5.5 seconds.

The car comes with permanent all-wheel drive, a 5-speed automatic gearbox, ESP and electronic traction control.

The Geländewagen (that's the long version of G-Wagen) costs a tidy sum indeed. If you want to drive this monster home, you need Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). And believe it or not, 12 of these cars have already been sold!

lol ghostrider, how many years does your sumo take to go from 0-60 miles/hr? the G does it on an average of 6 secs. in the hands of a pro can do it in under 5 secs which is supercar territory. bet you became a ghostrider after your sumo rolled over.

its only for hard corers.for costing Rs. 1.1 crore its easily compromises with styling.

My old Sumo can kick this G-Wagen thing all day long. Overpriced, piece of junk. Designed by, 'brilliant engineers' hmmm sounds like an oxymoron.

Its just a beautiful machine. Lol, funny to see how unwittingly stupid people can be with their comments. its a powerful luxury SUV with a 90s styling that appeals to buyers(Lewis Hamilton being one of them). If you have one of these vehicles from the 90s, AMG will even creat this G wagen for you. It is engineering excellence. Having a car like this this shows you have taste and not only money. Anybody who has any knowledge about cars will buy it, but 11crores is too steep for India.

And Doc, it is anyday far superior than the Hummer! Hummer was put together by a bunch of yankee thickos. This was built by a bunch 0f brilliant engineers. Making a 90s vehicle perform like a sports car requires brains which you cannot understand or appreciate!

I also think this is probably just a new tempo trax.. If I am not wrong Tempo Trax is being built from a scrapped plant that was earlier used to build MB G Klasse.

The irony of it! The uglier a car the costlier it is - the G-Wagen and the Hummer being prime examples! A sub-five lakh car with this styling would be dismissed contemptuously as being 'boxy'...and then I think Jairam Ramesh was right in calling SUVs "criminal" - though surprisingly all of you auto journos whose English is impeccable seem to have no idea what "criminal" means...this vehicle is certainly disgustingly over-powered.
