Mark Webber has now notched four wins in the 2010 Formula 1 season. He leads the World Championship with a total of 161 points, four points clear of Lewis Hamilton. And that, as you can imagine, leaves Webber more than a little chuffed about his race win at Hungaroring. Who wasn't chuffed with his result at the Hungarian GP? Webber's team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
Now, Vettel qualified on pole at Hungary. Mark Webber had to settle for second on the grid, with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso behind them. When the race started though, Alonso managed to get past Webber, who found himself down in third place. What worked to the Australian's advantage though, was a fantastic pit strategy. While the rest of the field chose to pit when the Safety Car was brought out to clear debris at Turns 13 and 14, Webber stayed out on track and moved to the lead. And when the race resumed, Seb Vettel was, by his own admission, caught napping. Vettel was penalised for not staying within 10 car lengths of the race leader. Slapped with a drive-through penalty, the German lost time, dropping to third behind Alonso.
By the time it was Webber's turn to pit for tyres, it was lap 43, and he had managed a lead of 23 seconds to Fernando Alonso. Webber rejoined the race 4 seconds ahead of Alonso, and with new tyres, and then managed to hold the lead all the way till the end of the race.
Felipe Massa finished the race fourth, behind Sebastian Vettel.
It wasn't a good day for the McLaren team. Lewis Hamilton's car suffered a gearbox failure, which meant no points for him. It also means that he lost the lead of the championship to Webber. Reigning World Champion, Jenson Button, finished in eighth place.
As for the returning champion, Michael Schumacher, it was another controversial race. Michael came under criticism for over-aggressive defending, which saw him squeeze former team-mate Rubens Barrichello against the pit wall. Stewards have given Schumacher a 10 place grid penalty for the next race at Belgium thanks to that manoeuvre. Rubens has lashed out a Michael calling him 'crazy' and Michael has stated that he was justified in making one move to defend his position.
Both the Renault and Mercedes teams have been fined $50,000 each for the unsafe release of their drivers, Robert Kubica and Nico Rosberg respectively, from the pitlane.
