And the inevitable has happened. Sebastian Vettel has won the 2011 world championship with a third place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix. Jenson Button took victory at Suzuka, with Fernando Alonso second.
While Sebastian Vettel would have liked to win the race and also the title, given the fact that he had required only one point, third place was enough to see him through. But at the start of the race, Vettel really did try to defend his lead, at one point running Button onto the grass. The two had a bit of a chat about the incident once the race was over, with Button finally concluding that he believed that Vettel hadn't seen him coming.
Vettel, at is now the youngest-ever double world champion in Formula 1 history, having broken Fernando Alonso's record.
