Ducati had made its way into India earlier through a distributor, however now the company is preparing to make a return in the coming couple of months. From what we understand, Ducati will re-launch itself in India at the start of the next financial year and the company will begin with two dealerships, NCR and Mumbai.
Ducati will be introducing the Monster 795, Monster 796 ABS, Diavel, Diavel Carbon, Hypermotard, Hyperstrada, Paniagle 899 in the initial phase. The Scrambler too is likely to be introduced with the initial lot. The Italian bike brand is now owned by Audi A.G. and it comes under the Volkswagen Group umbrella.
There are many Italian bike makers who are considering India as a serious market, beginning with Benelli, Aprilia and even Moto Guzzi. In the initial phase, all the bikes will be a complete body import and it is later on that Ducati could consider making it a CKD. Ducati is also looking at getting the Monster 696 in India. This will be a 696cc bike and the smallest Monster that will be sold in India.
We haven't got any official statement from Ducati, but the head office is likely to be based in Delhi or Mumbai. Audi India's head office is based in Mumbai but there is no clarity if both the brands will be operated out of the same office. Audi is the highest selling luxury car brand in India, followed by Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
